If there is anything that brings a smile on the face of a young fan is the same dress that her favourite heroine has worn in the smash hit film. Well, most Indians cannot escape the Bollywood influence in their lives. Earlier it was only the songs and dances that people were crazy about. But now the costumes are in demand practically everywhere these films are shown. It is no surprise that the biggest searches on the web are often for ‘bollywood salwar’.

Like all other film merchandise the costumes are now much better. With the entry of professional designers in handling the costumes, it shows on the screen. In the recent few years the Preity Zinta inspired ‘Veer Zaara’ salwar was a rage. In the early nineties the film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ salwar became a colossal hit with the masses. Before that in the sixties heroines like Mumtaz, Hema Malini stole the show with tight body hugging salwar kameez, giving lesser fit women a big complex! Nevertheless even that Bollywood salwar was very popular. The thin white muslin salwar that Aishwariaya Rai Bachchan wore in ‘Mohabatein’ with chiffon kameez was another big hit with her fans. Fans copied the same designs till Kajol and Rani Mukherjee came with better designs in later years. Juhi Chawala’s salwar kameez in Bhoothnath became quite popular.

The bollywood salwar will always have its dedicated clientele.  As long as Hindi films are made, they will be a constant trend setter for the new generations.
